[edit] 30/30 Anejo Review

[edit] Josh's thoughts

Steve told me about this one and seeing it on the shelf at the Bellevue Main Street liquor store for less than $25 I figured "what the hell? any Anejo is worth at least $25, except the Aha Toro..." (and Steve had already hinted that this wasn't the Aha Toro).

First, the color is a very light yellow - more like a reposado than an anejo in appearance. The smell is nothing special, but nothing that makes me concerned either. The taste is a bit biting - kinda grabs you at the back of the throat, with a hint of... soap? 2nd sip - still a bit of bite and yes, that tastes a little like dish soap. the wash is pretty clean (must be the soap ;-)), tho the bite leaves the tongue tingling. thankfully the slight soap taste disappears quickly too, but the tingle is a little weird - almost like the tequila is trying to bite you back... :-/ after taste isn't the most pleasant - no sweetness, no fruitiness, nothing really but tingle and a slight agave after taste. As Steve said when he told me about it - it'll probably make a damn good margarita. And at $25/bottle if it can compete with my current favorite marg-making tequila, Sausa Hornitos Reposado, then it was worth the purchase. :) (tho i wouldn't recommend it straight up unless you're all out of all your other anejos (unless it's Aha Toro, in which case just pour that crap down the drain and have a beer)).
